Netherlands donates bus to GIS

Accra, Dec 12, GNA - The Government of the Netherlands has donated a Tata bus, worth GHC 93,000, to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), for its immense contribution towards the ensuring of a well deserved peace in Ghana and the sub-region.

The donation was made at the closing ceremony of an eight week Training of Trainer's (TOT) course for twenty personnel from the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalisation Liberia (BIN), and organised by the GIS, in collaboration with the Netherlands, at the GIS Academy in Assin Fosu. The course was on the theme: "Strengthening the Institutional capacity of BIN," and it was aimed at promoting migration best practices and policies, which would propel the BIN into a self-serving institution, capable of training its local recruits and staff.

Mr Emanuel Minnar, Representative of The Netherlands Embassy, who made the donation, said it was the responsibility of the Netherlands to show gratitude to GIS for its enormous contributions towards national security and the promotion of peace and development in the sub-region. He pledged her country's continued support to enhance peace in West Africa. Mr Eric Afari, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration and Project Manager of TOT, expressed happiness about the success of the programme and urged the graduates to deliver up to expectation, as they return to Liberia. He thanked the Netherlands for their support. 12 Dec. 10
