National security questions Annoh-Dompreh over ‘beat up NDC supporters’ comment - Report

Member of Parliament of Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh Member of Parliament of Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh

The National Investigative Bureau (NIB) has reportedly questioned the Member of Parliament of Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, over his 'beat any NDC member fighting a fellow party member' comment.

According to a report by JoyNews, Annoh-Dompreh was questioned by a top national security operative after he was invited to the bureau over the comments he made.

The report indicated that the top hierarchy of the NIB were in the meeting where the Minority Chief Whip was questioned, which took place on Monday, February 10, 2025.

He was asked to file a statement on his comments, which he obliged to, the report added.

Annoh-Dompreh is said to have told the officials of National Security that there was nothing wrong with the comments he made.

He insisted that he did nothing wrong with the comments he passed, adding that the comments he passed did not breach any of the country's laws.

The report added that the NIB would continue to look into the matter and take the needed action if it finds something wrong with the MP's remarks.

What Annoh-Dompreh said:

Frank Annoh-Dompreh warned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will face unrest in Parliament if they prevent the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) from re-collating the results of the December 2024 Ablekuma North parliamentary election.

He issued a one-week ultimatum for the EC to declare the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Akua Afriyieh, as the winner of the December 7 election.

In a video shared by GHOne TV on Facebook on Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Minority Chief Whip emphasised that failure to allow the re-collation process to proceed would result in continued demonstrations.

He also urged NPP supporters to defend their fellow party members in any confrontations with NDC members.

"If you are a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and you come across a fellow party member fighting with a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), step in and help your fellow party member," he stated.

Annoh-Dompreh insisted that the EC must declare Akua Afriyieh the winner while dismissing calls for a re-run, alleging that the NDC had destroyed crucial electoral documents.

"If they (NDC) are not reasonable enough to know that, based on the collated results, we have won the Ablekuma North parliamentary election, the NDC MPs will not know peace in Parliament. We will continue to demonstrate. So, if they do not allow the EC to re-collate, they will not know peace. We are giving the EC one week to declare the results. Why did the NDC burn the pink sheets? Ablekuma North is for the NPP. We are winning," he noted.
