National great achievers award launched

Accra, Oct 23, GNA- The first National Great Achievers Awards to honour personalities who achieved successes in their various fields of endeavours without assistance was launched in Accra on Thursday. The award ceremony to be held on March 30, next year, was organised by Raddom Adverts agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS).

Eleven personalities in the various categories of academic, sports, entertainment, business or social would be honoured.

Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister of MEYS, who launched the programme, said the winners would serve as role models to the youth and also encourage them to lead lives worthy of emulation.

He said "it was unfortunate achievements of people were measured by wealth and thereby lose our values".

Mr Aggrey said such attitudes had relegated the true heroes to the background and were not known by the youth, adding "this awards would help the youth to rediscover their hidden talents".

Mr Joe Baidoe-Ansah, Member of Parliament for Effia Kwesimintsim, appealed to the organisers to ensure sustenance of the award, adding, "Ethics could be a guideline in selecting the achievers".

He said streets in some communities could be named after some of these achievers for easy identification of locations.

Mr Adom Elliot, Managing Director of Raddom Adverts, said 25 people from the various fields of endeavours would be selected and interviewed.

He said there would also be live telecast of programmes from the hometowns of those to be selected.
