National Youth rally scheduled for Republic Day

Accra, June 22, GNA - Reverend Albert Ocran, Chairman of National Yout= h Rally (NYR) Planning Committee on Wednesday said the youth constituted an important human resource with potentials to contribute significantly to national development.

He, therefore, called on government, parents, civil society organisations, development partners and the media to accord the youth such recognition and embrace their involvement in national development. Rev Ocran made the observation at a press conference in Accra to brief the media on preparations towards the National Youth Rally, scheduled for the Trade Fair Site at La on Republic Day, July 1.

This year's celebration is on the theme 93Stand Up For True Love"= .. He said the rally was to bring together youth all over the country to develop and equip them to attain their self-worth for national development. In addition, it would bring together young people from various castes and backgrounds to teach them moral values, as well as challenge them to live purposeful lives consistent with Christian tenets. Rev. Ocran said the annual event was committed to supporting young people to pledge their allegiance to Jesus Christ and commit themselves to stay pure. "The youth must prepare and be prepared to help unearth and develop their potentials and consequently empowered to play their roles in the church and society," he added. Rev. Ocran said although the youth were allowed to participate in many high level policy processes, consultations and activities, they often remained on the periphery. Speakers for the rally would include Mr Kwame Adu, National Director o= f Scripture Union-Ghana.
