The Upper West Regional (UWR) Secretariat of the National Youth Authority (NYA) has celebrated senior citizens in the Region and honoured some with citations.

Several people including Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister, a former Ambassador to Mali, Mahmud Khalid, and retired teachers, doctors, nurses and security personnel attended the event.

It was organised on the topic: “Bridging the gap between the old and the youth to enhance socio-economic development”.

Alhaji Alhassan urged the youth to live up to the expectation of society as future leaders of the country.

He said it was against this backdrop that the government initiated programmes like Nation Builders Corp for the youth to help equip them for the job market.

A Security Analyst, Mr Kweku Bawine, who spoke on the topic, told the youth to be patient with life and work closely with the elderly to tap their wisdom.

The spokesperson for the Senior Citizens who attended the function, Naa Bob Loggah, cautioned the youth to be mindful of time and always think beyond the box to become successful people in future.

Some of the youth who attended later visited a cross-section of the retired workers to render household services to them and also spent time with them for mentorship.

Mr Ekow Eshun, the Director of Human Resource at NYA Head Office in Accra, advised the youth to stay away from drugs like tramadol, petrol and glue.

The Authority awarded some deserving personalities with citations.
