National Security takes over security at Kotoka

The Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), George Kuntu Blankson, has told Citi News a contingent from the National Security has been deployed to take over the security services at the Kotoka International Airport.

Government this week ordered the GACL to terminate the contract with Sohin Security Company providers of security at the Kotoka international airport after the Chief Security Officer of the company was arrested in the United States of America for drug trafficking.

In an interview on Eyewitness News on Thursday, Mr. Kuntu Blankson explained that the personnel from the National Security are to provide effective surveillance “in order not to allow anybody to interfere with the sanctity of our republic.”

He clarified that Sohin Security Company was only contracted to augment the security at the airport saying, “airport as an entity has its security called Arseck and they have their commander there and that commander was not involved in this.”

According to him, Sohin Security Company was employed with the aim of enabling private entrepreneurs to help with security services at the airport and also to provide jobs.

Mr. Kuntu Blankson further responded to critics who have said that his outfit did a poor job at screening personnel at Sohin before contracting the private security company.

“Anybody who thinks that Ghana Airport Company did a shoddy job, I will not side with that person because…when he came for the job, he did not come with any documents that indicated that the man is a criminal or a drug dealer until he was busted.”
