National Pet Show to be held in October

Accra, Sept. 7, GNA - The Ghana Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) will in October hold a National Pet Show to encourage the public to seek the welfare of and have affection for pets and other animals as a means of reducing cruelty to animals.

The Pet Show under the theme: "Pet-Friends For All" to be held from October 4-6 at the Efua Sutherland Children's Park, would bring together pet breeders, pet owners, pet groomers, veterinarians, manufacturers and distributors of animal foods and veterinary drugs to exhibit their pets and products.

The Pet Show organized in collaboration with INFOCUS PR, a public relations consultancy, is aimed at whipping up the interest, awareness creation and the consciousness of the public in pet care, bring to the fore the potentials of the pet industry. pets to be exhibited include dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, fish, snakes and horses.

Dr. Kwasi Darkwa, Vice President of GVMA and the chairman of the planning committee of the Show, said exhibitors and participants would be bound by rules and regulations that would be issued by the committee.

These, he said, would include healthy pets and veterinary surgeon's examination health certificate. Pets for the Show should be vaccinated, dewormed 30 days before the event, dogs must be muzzled and owners should ensure that they fed and controlled their pets. Dr. Darkwa noted that the first national Pet Show was held 10 years ago but could not be sustained because of lack of funds and called on stakeholders to ensure its sustainability and make an annual affair. 07 Sept. 07
