National House Of Chiefs Gets Tough On Non-Gazetted Chiefs

Abeadze Dominase (C/R) The National House of Chiefs has decided that chiefs who have not been gazetted should not be allowed to attend Traditional Council meetings. Mr. Isaac Dadzie-Mensah, Registrar of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, announced this at a meeting of Abeadze Traditional Council at Dominase. Mr. Dadzie-Mensah urged the traditional councils to submit particulars of chiefs in their areas who have not been gazetted to the National House of Chiefs and the Chieftaincy Secretariat for the necessary action. He said the National House of Chiefs had sent letters to the district assemblies appealing to them to support chiefs in the discharge of their duties. The Registrar said chiefs have important roles to play in the success of the government's decentralisation programme and that financial support from the assemblies will enhance efficiency. He advised the traditional councils to embark on income generating ventures to finance their activities. Nana Kojo Kyea, Akyempimhene of the area, called on the chiefs to embark on campaigns to educate their people on the need to send their children, especially their daughters, to school. He deplored poor enrollment in some schools in the area. Nana Kyea was not happy with the attitude of some parents who molest teachers for disciplining their wards and urged the chiefs to turn attention to such situations. Nana Kwabu Ewusie the Seventh, Omanhene of the traditional area who presided, called on the chiefs to initiate programmes to develop their communities. Nana Ewusie reminded the chiefs that they stand a chance of getting support from the government and the district assembly when they start working on a project.
