National Dance Company to hold annual event

The National Dance Company (NDC) formerly Ghana Dance Ensemble and the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) would on June 18 -20 hold the first annual contemporary Ghanaian music and dance concert and symposia.

The concert dubbed: "DIEMA" would be held at the National Theatre in Accra in collaboration with music composer Professor Paschal Yao Younge and choreographer Dr Zelma Badu-Younge, both from the Ohio University in the United States.

A statement issued by Nii Tete Yartey, Artistic Director of the National Theatre and copied to the Ghana News Agency, described "DIEMA," as a celebration of contemporary Ghanaian music and dance.

It also seeks to portray a transformative cultural experience for the public - both children and adults - involved in or inspired by the arts.

The National Dance Company said seven world premieres of contemporary Ghanaian Orchestral Music and Dance would be performed by international guest artists from the United States, Canada, Taiwan and the Republic of China.

And these are in addition to several of Ghana's own nationally and internationally recognized groups.

The event, which would be the very first edition of an annual concert, would seek to present the best of Ghanaian arts and culture to the world.
