National Commission On Civil Education Staff Warned

The Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education, in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr.. J. E. Oppon has advised personnel of the Commission not to engage in acts that are at variance with the tenets of the 1992 constitution. They should in no way undermine the constitutional role assigned to them to educate the people about their civic rights and responsibilities. Dr.. Oppong stated this when he addressed staff of the commission in the Afram Plains District at Donkorkrom. He deplored the practice where some staff of the commission go out of their way to made some pronouncements about the conduct of some public officers. Dr.. Oppong described such tendencies as a breach of the spirit and letter of the code of conduct for staff of the commission. He urged private investors and local entrepreneurs to tap the rich agricultural potential of the Afram Plains in order to generate more employment for the people in the area and increase food production. Dr.. Oppong appealed to the people to protect the environment and make good use of the electricity and telephone facilities extended to the area by the government. The District Chief Executive, Lt. Colonel Lord Safo, commended the NCCE for organising civic education programmes for the rural communities in the district. The District Director of the NCCE, Mr.. J. K. Ayisi, said Staff of the Commission will not compromise the principles of probity and accountability. He said a comprehensive public education programme has been drawn up for the various communities in the Afram Plains to enable the people to engage in informed discussions on issues of national interest.
