Former Deputy Information Minister in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) era, Baba Jamal has lauded the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the National Cathedral initiative.

According to him, it is a known fact that Ghana as a country is Christian dominated and having such a facility is in the right direction.
“ We all know that Ghana is a secular country and that Christians are the majority in the country. So I think it is a very laudable idea to build the national cathedral” he said.

Speaking on an Accra based local television station and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Jamal said the project is like the national mosque that is being constructed for Muslims in the country, explaining that the Mosque that was broken down in Makola is being replaced with the National Mosque which is currently under construction.

His problem with the National Cathedral project however is the location or situation.

According to him, the public outcry about the project gives a course for government to rethink the whole idea and probably look for an alternative site for the project.
In his estimation, the government together with the board of trustees of the National cathedral project should get back to the drawing board and repackage the project to make it more acceptable by the generality of the Ghanaian people.
