The main opposition NPP has chided the National Accreditation Board for what it says is the regulatory body’s “inaction and irresponsible attitude” towards tertiary education in the country.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the Party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, said the NAB’s decision to ban some 53 institutions recently, and the subsequent posturing of not being the ones who should take the blame was most unfortunate.
“We note with disdain the shameful attempt to shift blame to parents and unsuspecting students who have become victims of this criminal dereliction of duty on the part of such a crucial state agency.
The inaction and irresponsible attitude of the NAB poses a real threat to the status of tertiary education in the country.”

The New Patriotic Party has noted with serious concern that as many as fifty three (53) tertiary institutions are operating in various parts of the country without proper certification and accreditation according to a recent release by the National Accreditation Board (NAB).
According to the Board, such “institutions do not have the mandate to award or issue academic or professional certificates, neither the institutions nor their programmes are accredited by the board.”
We note with disdain the shameful attempt to shift blame to parents and unsuspecting students who have become victims of this criminal dereliction of duty on the part of such a crucial state agency.
The inaction and irresponsible attitude of the NAB poses a real threat to the status of tertiary education in the country.
The loss to individuals and companies has been enormous. Thousands of parents have been duped millions of cedis and youthful productive time wasted.
The New Patriotic Party wishes to express its utmost shock at the loud silence of President Mahama and the NDC government on this very important matter of public concern.
We demand that the Government takes immediate action to correct these anomalies, punish those found culpable as well as finding ways to mitigate the sufferings of unsuspecting students and parents.
In the meantime, the NPP wants to assure the youth of our dear country that we have well thought-out policies that will ensure their talents and capabilities do not go waste under a Nana Akufo Addo led NPP administration.
The government is hereby put on notice that by all legitimate means possible, the NPP shall hold the government accountable to protect the interest of the citizens of our dear country Ghana.
