A Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences at the Vatican, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson has asserted that the transformation of Ghana is a shared responsibility, not the sole duty of the President.
He made these remarks on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, to mark Ghana’s Republic Day.
The event gathered thousands of citizens, political leaders, and religious figures for a moment of spiritual reflection and national unity.
Cardinal Turkson urged Ghanaians to embrace patriotism and civic duty.
He emphasised that meaningful national development and the vision of President John Dramani Mahama can only be fully realised when every citizen actively contributes to the common good.
“We cannot expect the President alone to carry the weight of Ghana’s progress. Each of us has a role to play in our homes, in our workplaces, and in our communities. Only together can we build the nation we all dream of,” he stated.
The service was part of activities commemorating Republic Day, which on July 1, 1960, marked Ghana's transition to a fully sovereign republic.
The event highlighted the crucial role of faith and unity in the nation’s democratic and developmental journey.
