Nana Konadu To Lead NDP next week - NDP

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (NDP) says negotiations to get the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as its flagbearer for the 2012 polls would be completed by next week.

Dr. Mamboah-Rockson says he is confident that Mrs. Rawlings would accept the offer and conditions put in place for her to lead the party.

According to him, grassroots members are clamouring for the former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to lead the party in the December polls.

Dr. Joseph Mamboah-Rockson in an interview with XYZ News said the interim national executives of the party have approached Mrs. Rawlings with the offer to be the party’s Flagbearer per the desires of the grassroots supporters.

He added that there are three other candidates that have been shortlisted to lead the party if Mrs. Rawlings rejects the offer to become its flagbearer.

“We have three main names that have cropped up for our Presidential candidature and among the data we collected across the country is the grassroots call for Mrs. Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to become our flagbearer” Mr. Rockson said.

“We would put a congress in place very soon to see that this dream is realized” He added.

Dr. Mamboah-Rockson also stated that he is confident that former President Rawlings will publicly endorse the NDP once the party succeeds in getting his wife on board.

“We as a party must hurry up and convince him [Rawlings] that we are more genuine and would do what he wants and then he will jump on board”.
