Nana Akufo-Addo to fight corruption

Ho, Aug 10, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday said if elected President of Ghana, he would sharpen capacities of all anti-corruption institutions for a passionate drive against corruption in the country.

The NPP flagbearer said he would be the pivot to give direction to tha= t "not easy" drive, crucial for national development, and not wait to be prompted by other countries.

Nana Akufo-Addo was interacting with the media on Tuesday at HO just before embarking on a visit to some flood-hit areas in the Volta Region. He said the Ghana Police Service, Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Media, Attorney-General's Department and other vital state institutions should be supported to work effectively. Nana Akufo-Addo said he would ensure good compensation packages for workers in the public sector in his anti-corruption drive. He said it was important to restore confidence in the public services, which should reflect efficiency and transparency.

Nana Akufo-Addo said: 93It is not a one-day issue, in fact, a process= , which must happen. Others have done it, where corruption is minimal and we can also do it". Nana Akufo-Addo hinted that the NPP's programme to be put before the electorate soon, underscored equal opportunities in education, effective decentralization of governance, environment and job creation among others. He said as the 1992 Constitution enjoined all governments, the NPP if returned to power, would be fair in the distribution of development in the country.
