Nana Addo will cater for Volta flood victims - Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, a communications director of the New Patriotic Party, has charged the NDC to engage in ³propaganda that is appealing² by addressing issues that are likely to affect the nation.

³As we speak, there are demonstrations being planned in the Volta region against the government. If they want an issue to address, that is the issue they must address²

Nana Akomea made these remarks on Xfm¹s the Big Bite morning show in reaction to a story carried by the Daily Post which accused Nana Addo (flag bearer of the NPP) of snubbing flood victims in the Volta region for a conference in South Africa.

Debunking the allegations, Nana Akomea opined that Nana Addo had to attend the conference in South Africa as one of the main speakers on how to remove criminal libel from the laws in Africa to enhance press freedom. ³Nana Akuffo Addo was the Attorney General when we removed the criminal libel laws so he¹s going there to lend his experience to other African countries so they can also improve on press freedom in their countries². Nana Akomea hinted that the NPP was g athering ³some few resources² which will be given to the flood victims in the Volta region upon the return of Nana Addo in a few days.

³We are not in government. We have to rely on our own selves to be able to get some relief items. Yesterday we started and today we are continuing getting some bags of rice, sugar, and some things that will give some relief and consolation to the victims. When he (Nana Addo) comes, we will go there (Volta region).²

He explained that Nana Addo¹s initial ³four day planned² visitation to flood victims in the Eastern region was reduced to three days because of the conference in South Africa adding that the visitations will be continued when Nana Addo returned.

Nana Akomea stated that the activities of illegal miners (popularly called ³galamsey²) along the banks of rivers which was a cause for the floods was not being addressed by the ruling government promising Ghanaians that a Nana Addo-led government would ³do what has to be done, which all of us know has to be done².
