The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has described Nana Addo’s comment on the National Health Insurance Scheme as most “unfortunate”.
According to the Deputy Director of Communications at the NHIS, Eric Amertor Qwame, it is surprising for such comments to be made by a Presidential candidate.
Nana Addo announced at the IEA evening encounter that the current government is collapsing the Health Insurance Scheme which was started by the previous government.
His comment has attracted varied opinions across the political divide.
Speaking to XYZ News, Mr. Amertor Qwame said Nana Addo had no facts and figures to support his claim.
He added that the NPP have run out of ideas and are deliberately attacking institutions in an attempt to convince Ghanaians.
“The NHIS is very healthy, it is growing in numbers, it is growing in utilisation, payments are being made to service providers so there is completely no basis for anybody to doubt the feasibility of the scheme and make the kind of statements that the NPP is making.
“The NPP at this stage lacks ideas, lacks programmes and policies which they can put forward to convince Ghanaians and have resorted to attacking personalities and institutions to denigrate them”.
