NYC mobilizes 200 youth to plant trees at GA West

Amasaman (Ga West), Aug. 13, GNA - The National Youth Council at Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality, has mobilized about 200 youth to be engaged in tree planting exercise.

Mr Nash Abbey, Coordinator for the Youth Council in the area said, the youth group have already planted 2,600 seedlings at Opah near Amasaman, where the project was launched in 2009.

Mr Nash said beneficiary communities for the exercise include Opah, Nsakyina, Onyansanaa and Ete. He said farming activities in some of these communities, have virtually stopped because there have been serious degradation of the land.

He said the trees when grown would give shade to the buildings and structures during rain storms.

Mr Nash commended the Department of Forestry for the supplies of seedlings for the exercise and hope it would continue to make Ghana a green country.

He appealed to the Amasaman Municipal Assembly, stakeholders and government organisations to come to the aid of the youth to make the project a successful one.
