When Augustine Anyimadu-Ahenkae, a multi-talented Ghanaian Math teacher at
Bronx Aerospace High School in the New York was publicly praised and honored
last June by New York City's Chancellor of Education, Joel L. Klein as a
most outstanding Math Teacher in New York, it was for, among many other
accomplishments, his sustained, consistent achievements of incredibly
helping all levels of students pass their state examinations semester after
semester and helping them to graduate. His passion for the success of his
students, his penchant for breaking very difficult material into easy stuff
for all levels of learners, his ability to prepare students within very
short periods of time to achieve what otherwise should have taken much
longer periods, his supreme commitment and sacrifice to spend time and
energy to see everyone succeed were just too remarkable to be ignored. Many
were those who advocated- students as well as teachers and administrators-
that he fittingly deserves a national best teacher award.
The true, bigger miracle, however, was unknown to the public education
system. The bigger miracle Mr. Augustine Anyimadu- Ahenkae was performing,
and which he is now doing with greater intensity since the chancellor's
recognition last year, is what he does after school - in the afternoons,
evenings and weekends. Registered officially as QUICKEST & BEST RESULTS
TUTORING, Mr. Anyimadu-Ahenkae's tutoring has and continues to turn all ages
and all levels of learners- children, youth, adults, into geniuses within
short periods of time. He tutors one-on-one, as well as small groups through
grades as various as 3rd grades through High School, GED, College Levels and
beyond; teaching MATH and ENGLISH for all levels and helping many to have
academic breakthroughs day after day. His joy is to see people succeed, and
this, he does each day from not only teaching in school but even more so,
tutoring after school. The Academic miracles that happen with him are just
too incredible, just unbelievable. A visit to any one of his tutoring
sessions will amaze any observer as you see students jumping for joy of
mastering Math for the first time, or having a 100 % in Math in their
schools for the first time, or the usual "ahhhhh"?. "ooooo" "why didn't they
teach me this way", "Mr. you make it soooooo easy", or "why didn't I come
here earlier?" . Everyone is a winner in "Mr. Augustine's(as he is wrongly
called) tutoring. Students who have lost all hope in their abilities come
from various schools- private, catholic, public schools; primary, middle,
high schools, universities, as well as adults who have never studied for
over decades- they all master the material in an incredibly short periods of
time and achieve. He raises all tests scores so swiftly: SAT, GED, GRE,
GMAT, 3rd -8th Grade Tests, Regents, and College Level Math, English,
Philosophy, Sociology and Economics, among others.
Reactions from the students and their parents are heartwarming, and the
success stories of students are simply endless. Miss D. Dankwah of Bronx
Community College, whose English grade was raised from a D minus to an A in
a matter of two weeks with the help of Mr. Anyimadu-Ahenkae thinks he is *"an
academic wonder worker".* Both Ms S. Stringfellow and Ms. G. Brobbey of High
School for Health Careers acknowledge that Mr. A. Ahenkae's tutoring was the
single most important factor in their passing of the Math B examination in
their school this past January, when most of their colleagues failed the

The list is endless. The amazing thing about this is that he thinks he is
just about starting. He has his sights on solving the academic problems of
as many as five hundred to one thousand people by the end of the year- or as
he puts it : *"at least whoever comes my way needing help".* He is a
prolific writer as well, and authoring easy-to-understand textbooks in every
area he tutors ? Math and English from primary school level through College
levels. How he does all this, and still finds time to pursue the many
graduate degrees he's pursuing simultaneously, plus giving speeches here and
there and making Inspirational CDs or writing inspirational books, is hard
to tell. Yet you'll always find him full of vigor, smiles, passion and
energy, and he sums it all up: "One person was given ten talents, another
five, another one, but to whomever much is given, much is expected".
