NVP to register 10,000 people for NHIS

Kumasi, Feb. 24, GNA - The New Vision Party (NVP) has planned to register 10,000 people nationwide for the National Health Insurance Schem= e (NHIS), this year.

Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah, leader and founder of the party, said a total premium of GH¢160,000 would be paid for the beneficiaries. He said in 2009, the party registered 1,200 people for the NHIS as again= st 600 beneficiaries in 2008.

Prophet Nkansah told GNA in Kumasi that the gesture underlined the party= 's resolve to ensure that all Ghanaians have access to quality health care, if given the mandate to govern the nation. He said the NVP has pledged to give Ghanaians free medical care in i= ts manifesto. Prophet Nkansah said poverty was making it difficult for the majority of=

Ghanaians, especially those in rural areas, to register for the NHIS, denying them access to quality health care. Prophet Nkansah, who is also founder and leader of the New Pentecost Vis= ion Church, criticised the Mills Administration for the worsening economic situation of the people. He said the ruling National Democratic Congress had failed to deliv= er on its "Better Ghana" campaign promise and that the NVP would transform t= he lives of Ghanaians, if voted to power in the 2012 General Election.
