NASPA Districts Executives claim the celebrations has been called-off due to unavailability of fundsNASPA Districts Executives claim the celebrations has been called-off due to unavailability of funds

The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) Districts Executives in the Eastern region have accused the National Service Scheme Regional Director, Accountant and the NASPA Regional President of misappropriating funds meant for National Service week celebrations.

Gideon Saka Ampomah, NASPA President for Birim Central Municipality, in an interview with Kasapafmonline.com disclosed that the week celebration which was scheduled to have started on Monday, July 30, 2018, has been called off.

Giving reasons for the cancelled week celebration in his District, Ampomah said, he has severally contacted the Regional Director, the Regional Accountant and the Regional NASPA President to pay the District’s funds deducted at source for the organization of the service week celebration but none of them gave him a positive reply.

This embarrassment on his side as the District President made him consult his colleague Presidents in other Districts who also complained of same situation, while others had the actual amount to be paid reduced drastically.

This situation according to Gideon Saka Ampomah compelled other District Executives to secure loans to organize the week celebrations.

He added that several calls to the Regional Accountant after since Thursday, July 26, 2018 to release funds meant for the District have gone unanswered.

Kasapafmonline.com put a call through to Mr Debrah, the National Service Scheme Eastern Regional Accountant to ascertain the truth in the allegation but he could not be reached as his phone is off.

“The regional accountant has refused to pay us our due funds for our activities for the year. We called them for the cash on Thursday and since then, the accountant’s phone has been off. We are still working and therefore do not have the time to go to the regional office ourselves. We think they have embezzled and used the funds for their personal life issues. We want fairness! They don’t deserve to be in that office. And moreover, the money they gave to some districts were not up to what they should have released.” Gideon Saka Ampomah, NASPA President Birim Central Municipality said.

The NASPA Executives are alleging that Regional Director of the NSS, Regional Accountant and the NASPA President have embezzled the NASPA funds for the week celebration.

In Birim Central Municipality, a total of 206 service personnel were deducted GHC15.00 each to aid in the planning and organization of the week’s celebration and an initial GHC5.00 each deduction to run the affairs of the NASPA in the District were also not paid.
