NSMQ 2019: Two-year absentees Augusco make big statement with Central Region win

St Augustine St Augustine

St Augustine’s College will mark a return to the National Science and Maths Quiz after two years of absence.

This follows their win of the Central Regional championship on Saturday.

Augusco beat University Practice SHS and Wesley Girls’ SHS in the final to emerge the maiden champions and coincidentally qualify for the national championship in June.

The regional contest was held at Mfantsipim School.

Though at par with UPSHS at the end of the first round with WeyGeyHey trailing with 14 points, Augusco jumped to the lead in Round 2 and there seemed to be no stopping them.

They won the final round with a whopping 50 points with UniPrac on 31 points. The ladies came third with 28 points.

Before heading to the finals, St Augustine’s College had beaten Apam SHS, Ghana National College, Breman Asikuma SHS and Boa-Amponsem SHS in the first regional contest.

UPSHS had also beaten last year’s finalists Adisadel College – who have already booked a place for the nationals – Swedru SHS and Edinaman SHS to make the final.

WeyGeyHey had seen off Mfantsipim School, TI AMASS Ekumfi, Assin State College and Winneba SHS to make it to the regional finals.

Meanwhile, the next regional champions will be held in the Ashanti Region from Monday, March 11 to Friday, March 15 at the Christian Service University College.
