The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced a new partnership with Absa Bank Ghana to provide an overdraft facility aimed at supporting National Service Personnel (NSPs) facing delays in allowance payments.

In a statement dated April 17, 2026, the NSA said the initiative, facilitated in collaboration with the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), is designed to offer immediate financial relief to personnel across the country.

Director-General of the NSA, Ruth Dela Seddoh, acknowledged the challenges faced by service personnel due to delays in the release of funds.

“We hear the frustration of our service personnel, and we are taking concrete action. Delays in the release of funds have, at times, placed hardship on young graduates serving their nation,” she stated.

Under the agreement, eligible NSPs will be able to access an overdraft of up to 85 percent of their monthly allowance.

The facility comes with zero interest for the duration of the delay, no collateral requirements, and automatic repayment once the delayed allowance is paid.

The NSA explained that the initiative is aimed at easing financial pressure and ensuring that no service personnel is left stranded due to timing mismatches between service periods and allowance payments.

To access the facility, personnel must hold an Absa Ignition Account, a youth-focused account offering zero maintenance fees, a free international debit card, and additional benefits, including travel insurance cover of up to GH¢100,000.

Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana, Edward Nartey Botchway, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting young professionals.

“We understand how allowance delays can put real pressure on young graduates, especially when they are trying to cover basic needs such as rent and transport. This collaboration aims to bridge that gap,” he noted.

The NSA reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring timely payment of allowances, while continuing to engage stakeholders to address systemic challenges within the scheme.
