NRSC vows strict enforcement of reflective tape use

Kumasi, Aug. 25, GNA – The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has vowed to ensure the strict enforcement of the use of reflective tapes by all vehicles with the weight of 3.5 tons or more.

Mr Kwaku Oware Boateng, the Ashanti Regional Manager, said the measure would come into effect from 1 September.

The introduction of the tape by the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority is to help reduce the spate of accidents on the roads.

Speaking to the GNA in Kumasi, Mr Boateng said drivers who refuse to comply with the directive would be arrested and prosecuted in court.

He said the Commission had spent a lot of time educating the public on the issue and that there would be no justification for any excuses.

He said the situation where accidents occurred when faulty vehicles are parked on the road without warning triangles could be prevented if such cars had reflective tapes to alert other road users.

Mr Boateng appealed to drivers and lorry station masters to desist from overloading vehicles adding that this would not only bring down accidents on the roads but also help increase the lifespan of cars.
