Accra, May 21 GNA- Nana Akomeah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okai-koi South, has tasked the youth in the New Patriotic Party to "go down to the level of the grassroots" where their impact would be most crucial. "We must not be seen to be involved in NPP activities only when we are on campus but must go back to the grassroots of the party where our impact would be felt".
Nana Akomeah was speaking at the handing-over ceremony of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP of the Accra City Campus (ACC) of the University of Ghana.
The seven-member executive has Mr. Rahaman Bugri as the President whiles the rest of the executives include; Mr. Anthony Baah, Vice President, Mr. Michael Nartey, Secretary and Mr. Daniel Asiedu Appiah, Treasurer. The rest are; Mr. Robert Mensah, Financial Secretary, Ms. Philomena Ampofoah, Women Organiser and Mr. Thomas Fokuo, Organiser. Nana Akomeah said anybody with serious intellectual ability belongs to the NPP and that the NPP is the natural party for the youth. He said people are in NPP because they believe in the ideology of the party and not personalities and individuals as in other parties. He said the NPP believes in the empowerment of the individual to enhance his or her talent and potential for development in freedom. According to him, the development that the NPP brought to Ghana in terms of projects was unprecedented in the annals of the country. Nana Akomeah said the reason why the youth in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are going on rampage against their own party is that they do not see any hope in the current administration to honour their campaign promises which raised their high expectations. He said even though the Mills administration claims they have brought inflation down to about 11 per cent, the banks still do not believe in them because some of the banks' lending rates are still around 31 per cent. Mr. Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, said the NPP "must not sit down and allow their opponents to use lies and false propaganda against them" without responding. "If we are not serious to stand up and confront some of these lies, people would come and sell these lies and propaganda and make it sound as if that it is the truth and people would fall for it", he said. He said the NPP had the best managers of the economy and as such urged the rank and file of the party to unite to ensure victory in 2012. Mr. Anthony Abeifa Karbo, National Youth Organiser of the NPP, assured that the Accra City Campus TESCON would have his unflinching support in their activities.
"I know the difficulties the old executives encountered, the work on our hand is difficult but not one that we cannot surmount", he added. Mr. Karbo also said the NPP would set record by making the NDC a one term presidency in the 2012 general elections. He said the NPP was not intimidated by the tactics and machinations of the NDC to win the 2012 polls at all cost.
"We are not intimidated by their communist inferior tactics, let them bring it on and we would face them boot for boot", he said. Mr. Karbo promised that the Youth Wing of the NPP would go all out to dismantle the propaganda machinery of the NDC. "Even in 2000 without much legacy apart from the two and half years of Dr. Busia, the people of Ghana gave us power what about the eight years of legacy of the good works of former President Kufuor?" Mr. Rahaman Osman Bugri, new President of the ACC TESCON, charged the new executives to commit themselves to the realisation of the dreams of the fore bearers of the NPP. He said the executives should be fully aware of the enormity of the task that is ahead of them and that the leaders of the party today were the foot soldiers of yesterday. He said the youth would constitute themselves into a political vanguard whose purpose is not to commit acts of insubordination but to back the quest of the party's leaders to redeem Ghanaians from the "undeserving hardship" imposed by the government of the NDC. 21 May 10
