Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would emerge as the majority in Parliament if elections were conducted today.
In a viral video circulating on X on March 16, 2026, the Effutu Member of Parliament expressed confidence in the party’s growing support despite being in opposition.
“If we were to vote today, the NPP would be the majority in Parliament,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin urged party members and supporters not to be discouraged but rather remain committed and work hard to regain political ground.
“My humble plea is hard work. Let’s not give up,” he said.

He also criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of misleading Ghanaians with campaign promises, including its widely discussed ‘one job, three shifts’ policy.
“They lied so much to Ghanaians that they were believed. They even said one job, three shifts and that people would work at night with torch lights,” he claimed.
The Minority Leader further praised former President Nana Akufo-Addo, stating that his administration implemented policies that benefitted Ghanaians, including reducing electricity tariffs.
He acknowledged that leadership in Parliament comes with intense pressure, including criticism and threats, but emphasised the need for courage and dedication.
“In this job you need to be brave because there are insults and threats,” he noted.
