NPP woos Muslims

Nana Akufo- Addo, MP for Abuakwa, has urged the Muslim community to challenge the National Patriotic Party's capabilities by voting it into power in the 2000 elections.

He said after ''witnessing almost 17 years of increasing poverty and gloom under the (P)NDC, it is worthwhile trying a new political party to enable the people to compare the two and judge for themselves which of the political parties genuinely has the interest of the Muslim and Northern community in particular and the nation as a whole at heart''.

Addressing the Muslim community in Kukurantumi at the weekend, he urged them to consider education as a key not only for their future well-being but as a prerequisite for national progress and development.

He asked them to consider repeated calls to sacrifice for the education of their children as ''an obligation whose benefits extend well beyond their families and communities''.

Nana Akufo-Addo who is minority spokesman on Legal and Constitutional Matters, said for Ghana to effectively compete in the global village of the next millennium, ''the quality of its human resource especially the level of literacy needs to be high''.

He urged Muslims to spare no effort to provide high level education for their wards and children since education is a rewarding investment.

Nana Akufo-Addo made a personal donation of 200,000 cedis and two bundles of roofing sheets and two bags of cement out of his share of the MPs Common Fund for the renovation of the Kukurantumi mosque.

He also presented seven bundles of roofing sheets and 20 bags of cement for the rehabilitation of the Kukurantumi Presbyterian Primary School.

Osabarima Kena the second, chief of Kukurantumi and Adontehene of Akyem Abuakwa, thanked the MP for his gesture and hoped that Nana-Akufo would continue to represent the people in Parliament.

Present at the presentations Alhaji Mohammed Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Organiser and Hajia Adisa, Ayawaso Central Women's Organiser, all of the NPP.
