NPP will set Presidential Jet - Kofi Wayo

Mr. Charles Kofi Wayo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East Constituency says when the NPP Government comes to power, it would sell the Gulf Stream III presidential jet recently acquired for the presidency. He noted that the money from the sale of the jet would be used to establish factories and open employment opportunities to accommodate the numerous unemployed Ghanaians.

Mr. Wayo said an NPP President would use a commercial plane for foreign trips to enable the country save the ?100 million paid daily for the Gulf Stream III. The NPP parliamentary candidate who was speaking on Vibe FM, a private FM Station in Accra on the programme, “Who gets the seat”, said the present Parliament has failed to bring to book people who have committed various crimes against the State.

The programme syndicated by Saphire Limited, is organised for parliamentary candidates to enable them put their plans forward to their electorate. According to Wayo, Parliament’s inability to punish individuals involved in criminal and corrupt practices has contributed to the poor performance of Parliament to safeguard the citizens’ lives. Explaining his party’s Health policy, he noted that much have not been done to improve the health care system in the country. He said the nation lacks adequate basic health delivery system, adding that, the nation’s health problem could be tackled by improving the basic sanitation system, which according to him needs to be looked at from the fundamental level.

Mr. Wayo said under the NPP Government, basic infrastructures needed to improve the nation’s sanitation problems will be put in place. He said his priority in Parliament would be to ensure the judicious use of the taxpayers’ money, which he believed had been misused under the PNDC/NDC Government He said the NPP Government would ensure that every house has a very good toilet facility, good sewage system and easy access to water, stressing “not open gutters”. The health system is very bad, agreed Alhaji Abraham Futa, the Convention People’s Party parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency who was also on the programme.

He said the hospitals are deteriorating because the NDC Government has failed to equip them with infrastructure and logistics. Alhaji Futa also pointed out that sanitation is one of the grassroots methods the CPP Government will embark upon to enable it tackle the health care system in the country. Dr. Ahmed Mustapha, the National Democratic Congress candidate for the Constituency, used the opportunity to refute reports that he does not reside in the Ayawaso East Constituency, thereby having limited knowledge about problems confronting the electorate.

He said, apart from having his dental clinic in Maamobi, a suburb in the Ayawaso East Constituency, he resides in Kanda, also a suburb in the Constituency. On the water shortage that has hit the constituency for most part of the year, Dr. Mustapha said a water reservoir is being constructed near the Accra Girls’ Secondary School in Maamobi, giving the assurance that the water problem would be solved with the construction of the reservoir. He also refuted allegations that he was engaged in a ? 900 million Scandal that involved the famous yet controversial A-Life outrage.

He mentioned improved road network and drainage system as some of the legacies of his predecessors. Hajia Maimuna Daimata, the People’s National Convention (PNC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency reiterated that PNC when voted unto power would declare a minimum wage of $5. She said the country is well resourced to deliver such an amount to workers.
