NPP will find it difficult to wrest power in 2012 if - Jumah

Kumasi, March 22, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will find it difficult to wrest power from the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012 if the NPP faithful do not put aside their personal interests, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, has said.

He said the NPP was far bigger than any single member or leader and for that matter the followers should always be preoccupied with the overall interest and agenda of the party to enable it to achieve its objectives.

Addressing members of the Asokwa women's wing of the party at a rally at Ahinsan in Kumasi, the MP described the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections as 93moment of truth", saying the elections would expose the inefficiencies of the NDC as the majority of the citizenry yearned for a return of the NPP.

Many Ghanaians, he said, had come to the realization that the NDC had nothing good to offer them as many of their campaign promises were yet to be fulfilled and the country was faced with high unemployment rate, poverty and hopelessness among the youth.

Mr Jumah called for decency in campaigning by contestants in the upcoming NPP primaries, noting that all contestants ought to embark on their rallies devoid of insults and enmity.

The Asokwa MP, who is seeking re-election, observed that no matter the outcome of the primaries in his Constituency, he was willing to support whoever would emerge victorious.

"If I am re-elected then so be it but on the other hand if the mandate is given to someone else then I would have no other choice than to be supportive of the person", he stated.

Madam Otiko Djaba, National Women's Organizer of the NPP, said women played crucial role in the development of the party and that the time had come for them to step up efforts to campaign from house-to-house to expose the bad governance of the Mills' Administration, which had brought untold hardships to the people. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) and an aspirant for the Asokwa Constituency of the NPP, commended women whose sweat and toil had helped to catapult the NPP to its present status of a vibrant party.

Mr Frederick Fredua Antoh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, affirmed the resolve of the leadership to work around the clock to maximize the party's votes in the region come 2012. 22 March 11
