Member of Parliament for Tamale Central constituency has said that the Electoral commission’s decision to compile a new register is just an attempt to rig the elections come December 7, 2020.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo government is aware they will lose the elections so they are trying every means to change the register as they won’t have anyone to blame if they lose the December elections.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is rolling their resistance against the compilation of a new register by the Electoral Commission to reiterate their stance to Ghanaians.

“NDC is going to win the elections, and it is the NPP that appointed the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa and the others. Now the NPP has a history that when they lose elections they blame it on somebody but because Jean Mensa and co are there and it is an old register and they will lose 2020 elections they couldn’t have anybody to blame, so that is why they are trying change the register.” He said

Meanwhile the EC insists that the compilation of the new register is necessary as the current register is bloated while the existing biometric system is outmoded and expensive to maintain hence the need to go in for a new one at a cheaper rate.

The Commission insists, its intention to compile a new register is without malice.

The Electoral Commission (EC) also said it is ready to engage the various political parties, especially those opposing the decision, ahead of the national polls this year [2020].
