NPP threatens to sue EC over voter registration exercise

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is threatening to sue the Electoral Commission (EC) for refusing to halt the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.

The EC has started the registration of prospective voters who have turned 18 years and those who did not register during the previous exercise.

Both the ruling NDC and opposition NPP have complained about the exercise.

The NPP is accusing the EC of failing to do the necessary consultations and engaging all parties to enable them monitor the exercise.

But the EC has rubbished such claims indicating that it has not erred in the process.

A member of the NPP's elections committee Osei Bonsu Amoah told Starr News the EC’s posture is not helping matters.

He hinted that his party could take a legal action against the EC to halt the process and do the right thing.

“If they think they can do things their own way, then they create a problem for everybody and we can’t advise them on this when the law is very clear.

“If they want to amend the regulations, they should tell the whole world but so long as the regulations exist, we will not sit down for the EC to do what they like,” he warned.
