NPP statement on running mate

STATEMENT BY NPP CAMPAIGN ON MEDIA SPECULATION REGARDING THE SELECTION OF HIS RUNNING-MATE

FRIDAY, AUGUST 15T, 2008 ___________________________________________________________________

The attention of the 2008 NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, MP, has been drawn to media speculation regarding the selection of his running-mate. While such speculation has gone on for some time, the publication on the front page of “THE STATESMAN" of Wednesday, 30th July, 2008, gave the impression that the issue had been settled in favour of one of the candidates. That is not the case. The Candidate also wishes to state emphatically that no particular newspaper speaks for him.

The process for the choice of running-mate has involved more extensive consultations than perhaps any other such exercise in our party's history.

The candidate himself has consulted with party leaders, Members of Parliament and rank and file party members. Indeed, those consultations are still on-going. Therefore, reports that the candidate has already decided the issue are premature. The NPP candidate thanks all those who have taken time to offer him advice. Nana Akufo-Addo respects the role of the party in this process and will be guided by the necessary regulations, guidelines and traditions of the party in this exercise.

Finally, Nana Akufo-Addo urges all party members and the general public to exercise patience and assures all that his running mate will be introduced to the public during the NPP Congress in Takoradi later this month.

Thank you for your interest in our party.

God bless you Yeeko yanim Won ya wor hie Zaa mu gaba
