NPP's strategy to stay in power revealed

Although December 8, 2004 when Ghanaians will go to the polls again to elect a new government or return the New Patriotic Party to power, in two years seven months away, the ruling party is said to be preparing feverishly for the battle and has put a strategy in place to hang on to power at all cost.

?In fact following the successful outcome of the NDC?s 5th national delegates? congress, the campaign strategist of the NPP, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has put together a plan of action to mollify the anticipated straight to the point campaign of the NDC.?

The Ghana Voice notes that it is the belief of the witty Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs that the NDC should nots be allowed to re-establish its political credibility which appeared to have registered a very low ranking as a result of anti-NDC and negative propaganda which has been unleashed against the party since it lost the 2000 elections to the NPP.

?The Ghanaian Voice has stumbled on a memorandum alleged to have been circulated by Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Greater Accra Chairman of the NPP, Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs and the man who solely mounted the campaign slogans and strategies of the party which saw the NPP bouncing back to power after almost three decades on the political wilderness.

Some of the strategies were ingenious which saw the use of little ones like school children to devalue and degrade the image of the NDC before the first round voting on December 7 and the run-off on December 28.

The memorandum entitled FACTS AND FIGURES OF THE NDC LEGACY and dated 30th April circulated to all ministers and copied to the president and the chief of staff is asking them to compile the details of debts and acts of malfeasance that resulted in financial losses to the state before January 2001, of the NDC to be blown and showcased before the 2004 elections.

Below is the full text of the Memorandum marked confidential.

It is now obvious that a tactic of the NDC will be to attempt to change history. It is vital that we do not allow this to happen. To prevent it we need to collate our inheritances as a government.

The situation we found on taking office. It would be most appreciated, therefore if you could instruct all departments and agencies under your ministry to furnish you with details of debts and acts of malfeasance that resulted in financial losses to the state before January 2001.

These details together with those to be compiled within your ministry should be sent to this ministry for necessary action. It is time for us to have all the facts so as to be able to let the people of Ghana know the facts and figures of the NDC legacy in order to prevent them from campaign of lies and deceit that opponents of government have been engaged in and would continue to engage in.

The Ghanaian Voice believes that it was the strong showing of the Founder of the NDC, ex-president Rawlings and the election of new firebrands like Dr. Josiah Aryeh, Nii. Okaija Adamafio, Lee Ocran, Bede Ziedeng, Baba Jamal, Ofosu Ampofo, Dr. Tony Aidoo and the likes of Dr. Obed Asamoah, and E.T. Mensah etc, etc, have put the fear into the spines of the NPP that has occasioned the move.?
