Chairman of the legal committee of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dennis Kojo Ofosu, has described as myopic and unprincipled the decision of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to petition the Chief Justice to investigate claims that Nana Oye Lithur met Supreme Court Judges ahead of the election petition verdict.
The claims were made by fired deputy Minister of Communications, Victoria Hammah in a leaked tape.
On the tape a voice purported to be that of the former deputy Minister is heard alleging that Nana Oye Lithur met Justices of the Supreme Court before the verdict of the election petition case.
The NPP in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, called on the Chief Justice to commence a probe into the judgment of the election petition case.
But speaking to XYZ News' Strict Proof in an interview, Mr. Ofosu Appiah said the call by the NPP is selfish, diabolical and completely unnecessary.
According to him, as an opposition Party the NPP should seek to do things that would lead to the stability and the unity of the nation.
He said the NPP is behaving like “a group of desperate politicians who are selfish in their way of doing things”.
But a private legal practitioner, Osei Owusu Afriyie said there is nothing wrong for the NPP to call on the Chief Justice to probe the comments made by Victoria Hammah.
According to him, Victoria Hammah was a member of government and her statements must not be taken lightly.
