A former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) inability to effectively communicate its accomplishments to the Ghanaian populace as a major factor in its recent electoral defeat.
Speaking to possible reasons behind the NPP's loss in the 2024 Elections on UTV, on May 8, 2025, Dr Adutwum cited ineffective communication a factor to the party’s debacle.
He noted that despite undertaking numerous impactful projects, particularly in remote areas, the party failed to adequately publicise these initiatives.
"The NPP embarked on very impactful projects – most of which were in remote areas. However, because the party was unable to properly highlight these achievements due to ineffective communication, they lost the goodwill of Ghanaians," he explained.
He further elaborated on how the then-opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) capitalised on this communication void, particularly in their campaign against the double-track system under the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
Dr Adutwum recalled, "They criticised the double track system in senior high schools to the point that they were making mockery of that system. Some people even tagged it as traffic light system."
He lamented that while the government was actively constructing infrastructure in various parts of the country, these efforts were not effectively communicated for Ghanaians to appreciate.
Dr Adutwum underscored that a significant challenge for the NPP was its struggle with communication, which ultimately hampered its ability to showcase its achievements and connect with the public.
