A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has lauded former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his achievements in public office, stressing that leadership should be judged on competence rather than one’s business background.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on Friday, September 12, 2025, Akomea explained that while some critics measure leadership ability by business success, effective governance is about performance in public service.

“Not everyone will be a businessman; what matters is how well you perform in your position, and Bawumia is known for doing an excellent job. It’s important to consider a person’s strengths in their chosen field,” he stated.

Nana Akomea also pointed out that many of Dr Bawumia’s policies and ideas have been adopted by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he argued highlights their relevance to national development.

According to him, the NPP presidential aspirant has consistently demonstrated a commitment to inclusive governance and has outlined plans that will ensure fairness and equity in appointments if he assumes the presidency.

He disclosed that Dr Bawumia intends to introduce a constituency budget system aimed at decentralising resources to ensure that every constituency directly benefits from national development.

“Bawumia has genuinely helped party members, from polling station executives to national leaders. If he comes to power, he aims for equal appointments and plans to implement constituency budgets so that every constituency is aware of and benefits from decentralised resources,” Nana Akomea indicated.
