General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has dismissed claims that the party is planning to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader in Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference on October 29, 2026, Kodua Frimpong said no discussions had taken place at any level of the party’s structures regarding the alleged move.

“Alexander Afenyo-Markin is doing exceptionally well for the party. How do you remove an excelling member of the party?

“Disregard any of such claims,” he said.

He cautioned party members against circulating what he described as false claims about the Minority Leader’s position.

The NPP’s response follows comments by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, who warned that any attempt to remove Mr Afenyo-Markin from the position would incur the wrath of Ghanaians.

According to the Asokwa MP, Afenyo-Markin has demonstrated the courage, wisdom and intelligence required to lead the Minority Caucus, adding that his leadership has strengthened the caucus and enhanced the NPP’s appeal.

Speaking on Accra-based AsaasePa 107.3, Appiagyei said she had neither heard nor witnessed any move to remove Afenyo-Markin but cautioned against any such attempt.

“I haven't heard nor seen it. But any attempt to remove Afenyo-Markin will incur the wrath of Ghanaians. Because he is a man of wisdom, courage and has intelligence to steer the affairs of the caucus and this is shaping us and by extension made the NPP attractive,” she told host Bonohene Baffour Awuah.
