NPP remembers Jake today

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is today, Monday 20 March 2017, marking the one-year passing of its former National Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey.

The former National Chairman of the NPP passed away on Sunday, March 20 , 2016 in London.

The General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, explained that “Jake’s contribution to the NPP can never be forgotten even in death, hence the celebration”.

According to him, a church service and a ‘get-together’ will be held on Monday to celebrate the life of Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey.

“The service will be held at 8am at the Ridge Church and after that we will converge at the national headquarters to continue the celebration,” he said.

Mr Boadu invited party members, sympathisers, and the general public to come and celebrate “Jake the great”. “The attire is all white,” he remarked.

From 2005 to July 2007, Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey served as Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations in the cabinet of President John Agyekum Kufuor. Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey was Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital from 2002-2005 and Minister of Information from 2001-2002.

He was the National Campaign Manager of the NPP during the 2000 Presidential elections, which saw the first constitutional civilian-to-civilian transition of power in the country.

Jake also served as Chief of Staff in the government of former President John Kufuor.
