NPP members asked not to be complacent

Koforidua Oct. 28 GNA - A leading functionary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked party members not to be complacent with the NPP's achievements but to intensify their campaigns to enable the party retain power in the next General Elections.

The NPP National Organiser, Mr Commey was speaking at separate meetings with members of the Koforidua and New Juaben North constituencies at Koforidua on Monday.

It was part of his tour of the regions to interact with party members and to plan strategies for the next elections.

Mr Commey appealed to members to be committed to the cause of the NPP to enable it to win 140 seats in the 2004 General Elections. He expressed worry about the claim by some members that they did not benefit materially and financially since the NPP came to power. The NPP, he said was a government for all Ghanaians and therefore will continue with its developmental programmes to improve the standards of living of the people.

Mr Commey said since NPP came to power, every town and community could boost of development projects, which was an indication of positive change.

He reminded party members that, " in strategising do not sit down and be complacent" but work hard to enable the party to maintain power next year.

Mr Commey said the NPP government was committed to ensuring that Ghana regained its position as the world's number one cocoa producer. He said the authorities would, therefore, continue to increase the producer price of cocoa and the mass cocoa spraying exercise. Mr Commey said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was now building a party and predicted that it will not win any election for next 20 to 30 years.

Nana Adi Ankama, Eastern Regional chairman of the party, asked the all members to register when the voters registration is re-opened since it was the only way that the party's membership could be increased to be able it to win any election.
