NPP littered streets with dead bodies to win 2000 election – Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has said the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has never won clean elections in Ghana’s political history.

According to him, even the year 2000 election that the NPP won was only because the party resorted to an evil strategy of littering the streets with dead bodies from Togo to create a sense of insecurity in the country, which frightened Ghanaians to vote for a change in government.

The Deputy scribe was reaction to statement by the NPP, Flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo that President John Mahama and his Vice, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur have copyright for election rigging in Ghana.

Nana Akufo Addo’s comment was also in response to Vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur statement during his tour of the Ashanti Region which is a stronghold of the opposition NPP last week, urged NDC supporters to be vigilant as some opponents of the party are plotting to rig this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7.

“I will urge all of you to be extra vigilant. NDC needs help. On December 7, some people will try to cheat the NDC. Be very vigilant to ensure no one succeeds in cheating us,” he told party supporters at Asawase.

But responding to the Vice President’s comment during his tour of the Ablekuma West Constituency in Greater Accra Tuesday, Nana Akufo Addo told the teeming NPP crowd that the rigging elections in Ghana is the preserve of the NDC.

“Our President and his running mate Amissa Arthur as we say in boxing have already thrown in the towel. Did you hear the shocking statement by our Vice President at Asawase that NDC supporters should beware because some people have planned to rig the upcoming election. How…what I know is that the President and his Vice have a copyright of the rigging phenomenon in Ghana, we are not the ones to rig this election, we are democrats.”

However in an interview with Kasapa News, Koku Anyidoho maintained that the Vice President had every reason to make that assertion.

“Akufo Addo’s rigging agenda in NPP internal politics has resulted in many of the members going independent in several constituencies across the country yet he has the audacity to talk about Mahama and Amissah -Arthur rigging elections in Ghana.”

He added: “In 2004 the late Jake Obetsebi Lamptey announced results of a rigged election at the Castle Gardens. From Kwame Nkrumah’s era, they’ve never won any clean election. Even the year 2000 election, they won, was because they littered the streets of Ghana with dead bodies from Togo which frightened people to vote for the NPP for a change. But in 2004, Ghanaians were tired and voted for late President Mills, but Jake declared otherwise but because late President Mills was a man of peace, he allowed that to pass, so what is Akufo Addo saying. Where are the over 1 million foreigners Akufo Addo claims are on our voters register and where is the , he shouldn’t waste our ears.”
