NPP has worsened plight of Ghanaians - Aryeh

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Nii Armah Josiah Aryeh, has stated that the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has moved off its unachievable manifesto promises and worsened the plight of the Ghanaian in its few months in office.

He noted that not even one of the promises given by the party during the lection campaigns has been achieved and said it is important that Ghanaians wake up and change the government in the 2004 general elections.

Dr Aryeh was speaking at a ceremony to induct the new executive of the Tertiary Education Network of the Cape Coast Polytechnic at Cape Coast at the weekend. It was also used to present certificates to past executive for their dedication to the party.

Dr Aryeh said the NPP has failed to offer free education, health and employment for the youth as promised and stated that the campaign against corruption is a farce.

He said nepotism has crept into every fibre of society, while basic human rights like the freedom of speech are being violated.

He called on Ghanaians to reject any attempt by the government to further worsen the plight, saying , ? that is positive defiance and it helps in the building of democratic structures?.

He said the NDC is committed to democracy and ushered the country into a democratic dispensation that has been the envy of Africa, adding that the NDC would take the country out of misery by voting New Patriotic party out of office.

The National Youth Organiser, Mr Iddrisu Haruna, stated that the government?s withdrawal of the privileges of former President Rawlings is a bad precedent and reminded the government that the office of the former president is an institution that should be upheld and honoured.

He said the NPP has shown gross incompetence in managing the affairs of the country and added that the NDC is investigating allegations of corruption in high government circles and places like the Free Zones Board, and in the award of some contracts and will soon come out with its report.

He urged Ghanaians to hold the government responsible for every decision it takes, adding that the future of the people is at stake.

The MP for Wenchi West, Mr Asiedu Nketsia, said the government has ushered the country into a culture of deception, and leading extravagant lives while the people continue to wallow in poverty.

The Central Regional Chairman of the Party, Dr Ato Quarshie, urged the members to work hard to win more people into the party to ensure that the party recaptures power in the next elections.

The President of TEIN , Mr Mathias Agbanyo, commended the leadership of the party for the democratic culture now existing in the party and promised to work hard to help the party achieve its set goals.
