NPP has done enough to be retained in power -JAK

Ashaiman, Nov 17, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has said his government's achievements in terms of development and good policies were convincing enough to retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power. He mentioned infrastructural facilities, school feeding programme, capitation grant, national health insurance scheme, free maternity care, youth employment programme and the rule of law as some of the relief to the public. The president was addressing a mammoth NPP rally at Ashaiman on Sunday. On the accusation that the NPP government ignored corruption committed by his officials, President Kufuor said it did not require his personal intervention because structures were in place to deal with the situation.

The President however said judging people by their wealth was not enough accusation for corruption but required an investigation and if found that indeed an offence had been committed then the law must deal with the culprit.

He introduced all the NPP parliamentary aspirants in the Greater Accra Region to the enthusiastic supporters and advised against voting for the presidential candidate leaving the aspirant as that would make governance difficult when given the mandate.

Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda, said the government was leaving 2.6 billion dollars in the nation's coffers after eight years in office, has said.

He said when the NPP took over from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government only 235 million dollars was in the coffers and debunked critics that the government's policies had brought untold hardship to the populace.

Rather the policies of the government had helped to improve the lives of the people and called for massive votes to retain the NPP to enable it continue its laudable work.

The party's presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, said the government under him would increase police personnel from the present 25,000 to 50,000 to ensure adequate security of the nation.

A sanitation programme would also be launched to commit the involvement of all to improve the environmental health of the people. Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his readiness to work hard to develop Ghana into a viable democratic nation for all to enjoy and called for massive votes for the NPP for him to continue the good work of the government.

He however reiterated that the NPP would not force issues on the populace but seek the consent of all through the ballot box whose verdict would be respected.

The Ashaiman parliamentary candidate, Mr Francis Bernard Anyinator, assured the constituents of developing the area when given the nod and appealed for their votes.

The rally was attended by many dignitaries including Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and Dr Mamudu Bawumia, NPP's presidential running mate.

Musicians and comedians thrilled the supporters to entertainment and songs geared at educating the supporters about NPP's position on the ballot box and asking them not to vote "skirt and blouse".
