NPP has chalked success for the country- Addo-Kufuor

Kumasi, Dec.5, GNA - Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of the Interior, has said that the eight-year rule of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chalked impressive successes in the country's democratic dispensation which would catapult the party to victory to continue its development agenda.

He said the NPP took over at a time the economy was in shambles following the PNDC/NDC 19-Year rule but bold economic measurers by the NPP have bailed the country out of the economic mess. Dr. Addo-Kufuor was addressing an NPP rally at Abbey's Park in Kumasi on Thursday

The Interior Minister, who is the Member of Parliament for Manhyia but is not contesting for the seat, said the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme and Free-Bussing for School Children, were some of the notable achievements of the government.

Dr. Addo-Kufuor said the National Health Insurance Scheme was a feather in the cap of the NPP.

He said one of the greatest legacies President John Agyekum Kufuor would bequeath to Ghana was the discovery of oil at Cape Three Points. He said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on winning power, would increase the police strength from 25,000 to 50,000 and would maintain the National Youth Employment Programme which has offered jobs to over 150,000 youth.

Dr. Addo-Kufuor later introduced Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as the parliamentary candidate for Manhyia, saying he would spearhead the development of Manhyia through his youthful exuberance. Dr. Opoku-Prempeh recounted what happened in the past and said "do not vote for those who will take us to the days of suffering, hardships and denial of the individual's fundamental rights". Mr. Yaw Amankwaah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP, said the party had worked hard to retain power so the voters should reject the self-seekers and those who wanted to cause mayhem.
