Communications Director for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa has rubbished claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress that, the ruling party needs the help of the Electoral Commission to win the 2020 general elections.

According to him, the NPP does not in any way need the support or encouragement of the EC to win the 2020 polls or subsequent elections.

He argued that, “if the NDC is accusing us of conspiring to rig the 2020 general elections with the help of the EC, then we can also say that the NDC brought Charlotte Osei to help them win the previous election.”

Discussions on the EC intended decision to compile a new Voter’s register have dominated national discourse in recent times.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been consistent on the compilation of a new voters register whiles the ‘Umbrella’ family National Democratic Congress has been against the EC’s decision to compile a new voter’s register.

The statement by the Communications Director for ruling NPP comes after the NDC’s Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah accused the NPP of conspiring to rig the 2020 general elections with the help of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Speaking on Kingdom FM’s Pae Mu Ka with Reynolds Agyeman, the Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency expressed confidence in President Akufo Addo and his government, saying that the ruling party will clinch victory in the 2020 general elections even without a new voters’ register.

He reiterated that, “We know our preparedness towards the general election despite the coronavirus outbreak.”

He said that his party has worked hard amid the coronavirus pandemic, therefore he is very hopeful that by the end of the 2020 elections, his party will come out tops.
