The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could have performed much better in the 2024 general elections if the party’s leadership had paid closer attention to the concerns of Ghanaians.

Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s The Point of View on June 23, 2025, Boamah reflected on the party’s past electoral fortunes, comparing the NPP’s landslide victory in 2016, when it won by a margin of about one million votes and secured approximately 169 parliamentary seats, with its performance in 2020, when it won with over 500,000 votes and 137 seats, plus an independent seat.

However, the story was different in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the 2024 election presented a different dynamic across the country, with noticeable dissatisfaction in key regions such as Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra.

He noted that voters in these key regions were expressing discontent, and internal party members were calling for a reshuffle of long-serving appointees.

“Party folks were calling for a major reshuffle. People had stayed in office for four, five, six, seven, even eight years, DCEs, some chief executives, and others. But it did not happen. The elections told us that if we had listened, we would have done far better than we did,” he stated.

He further remarked that God was speaking to the NPP at the time, and had the party listened and implemented the right measures, it would not have lost to the NDC.

“I believe God was talking to the NPP at the time, and we should have listened to the good people of this country and put in place the right measures and policies to make the people happy,” he said.
