The Ofoase Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Agyei Donkor, also known as Rabbi, has been convicted and fined GH¢3,400 by the Akim Ofoase District Court for assaulting a farmer with a chainsaw machine during a confrontation at Akyem Bontodiase in the Eastern Region.

The court, on Thursday, July 17, presided over by Benjamin Bennet-Attabrah, sentenced Donkor to pay a total of GH¢3,400, made up of GH¢1,800 (150 penalty units) as punishment for the assault and GH¢1,600 as compensation to the victim for medical expenses.

In default, he will serve six months in prison.

Also, the court ordered that the confiscated logs from the illegal operation be auctioned, with the proceeds paid into the government’s coffers.

According to a report by starrfm.com.gh, the incident occurred during a dispute over unauthorised tree felling near the public cemetery.

Donkor was cutting down trees when the farmer, Kofi Boakye, challenged him and questioned the legality of his actions.

The situation escalated, and Donkor allegedly grabbed a chainsaw machine in an attempt to harm the farmer.

Though the farmer managed to escape, he sustained injuries to his upper back.

The matter was quickly reported to the police, which led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
