NPP cannot be ungrateful to Kufuor - Sir John

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has lashed out at former NPP communicator, Michael Ampong, on his unfounded allegation that certain people in the party are demonizing Kufuor and his legacy.

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Member, Michael Ampong blamed the tension going on in the party on the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute (DI), Gabby Otchere Darko.

He asserted that there is a grand plan to destroy former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his legacy in the NPP using some people in the Ashanti Region like the former General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Minority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and Dr. Amoako Tuffuor as the conduit.

Reacting to the allegation on Okay FM, Sir John as he is known in politics said Michael Ampong is an attention-seeker, as such, such comments proves the elders in the party right for not making him [Ampong] the communications director of NPP.

He established that in NPP, former President Kufuor is the one who has helped to strengthen the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition with the introduction of meaningful social intervention policies to help Ghanaians in his two-term administration.

“It is through him that Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition has been in power for 2 terms. The introduction of the NHIS by Kufuor helped us to access free medical care in the past until NDC destroyed it. The school feeding program, capitation grant, roads, potable water and good economic policy made the country to reach middle-income status; nobody can demonize him,” he stated.

To the former NPP Chief Scribe, people were proud to be associated with Ghana due to Kufuor’s presidency; adding “so J.A Kufuor has done well for Ghana and for NPP and we cannot be ungrateful to him”.

Thwarting the allegations of Michael Ampong, Sir John said it is not possible for Kufuor’s name to be destroyed looking at the international assignments he has been embarking on after his presidency.

He indicated that former President Kufuor has been more honored than any other existing past leader in the country and in Africa at large; stressing that “NPP cannot go into any election campaign without relying on the legacy of Ex-President Kufuor; his legacy is our bedrock”.
