NPP begs for cash in Germany

Information filtering in from Germany indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by their pandering Presidential aspirant, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, went on their bending knees, begging the ruling Christians Democratic Union in Germany for cash to use for their 2012 election campaigns.

According to the Enquirer’s newspaper intelligence sources within the center-right Christian party, the NPP solicited for “financial support” on grounds that the assistance would go a long way to deepen Ghana’s democracy.

Foreign sponsorship of political parties in Ghana is against the political parties’ law. The reality in Ghana, however has been that most of the leading political parties have received contributions quietly form foreign sponsor.

Flying the national flag, instead of their party flag, two speakers of the NPP, namely: former President John Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, all spoke at the official programme. Interestingly, the NPP itself attempted to imprison ace investigative journalist and publisher of The Chronicle, Nana Kofi Coomson, for using the party’s flag without permission.

Nana Kofi Coomson’s crime was that whilst running as Parliamentary Aspirant for the NPP, he used the party’s logo on his letterhead to solicit for funds for his campaign. Whilst Kufuor showered praises on his regime and trumpeted what he saw as his good legacies for Ghana, sources say Nana Addo was talking as if he was the president of Ghana.

Meanwhile, there is speculation amongst some francophone West African countries that some of their presidents have vowed not to assist Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP because he was arrogant when he served as Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister.

One of the oldest francophone presidents is said to have told colleagues that anyone who supports Nana Addo will draw his displeasure because of a couple of what he describes as some attitude he displayed form time to time.

The Daily Guide reports that “As part of preparations towards the 2012 general elections, former President John Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, and the NPP national chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, are currently on a four-day visit to Germany as guests of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (DUC) and Konrad Adenauer Foundation”

The NPP attended the conference, which was organized by The Christian Democratic Union and Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a German think-tank and consulting agency that seeks to promote good governance and sound economic management both home and abroad.

According to a statement issued prior to their sojourn to Germany, Charles Owiredu, Director of International Affairs said “Jointly, the ruling CDU of Germany and the Foundation have a long-standing partnership with the New Patriotic Party in our shared belief in democratic governance and the social market economy.”
