NPP activists urged to sacrifice for the party

Kukurantumi (E/R), Aug. 29, GNA - The East Akyem District Chief Executive(DCE), Mr Emmanuel Victor Asihene, on Sunday asked members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to let the spirit of sacrifice and commitment exhibited by the founding fathers to build the party to guide them in activities of the party.

He also called on the party to remember that some people had spent resources, "even at the peril of their lives to move the party to it's present status which must be continued towards the realization of the party's ideals."

Mr Asihene made the call at a Thanksgiving Service at the Kukurantumi Presbyterian Church over his re-nomination and peaceful confirmation.

The DCE commended the founding fathers of the party's tradition, especially Dr J.B. Danquah, "who fought to sow the ideals of the party yet never tasted power, Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia who stayed in power for a short time and other selfless people, whose commitment had sustained the party to this day."

"Members of the NPP today, should count it as a blessing that the party, which was formed long ago at the expense of the comfort of some people, had become a reality" and called for unity at all fronts of the party to ensure that the ideals of the NPP was sustained. Mr Asihene expressed his gratitude to the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council and other institutions in the area, for their support that made his first term of office a success and called for unity between the two constituencies in the district to foster the continuation of the development agenda set on course.

In a sermon, Rev. Emmanuel Darkwa, Abuakwa Presbytery Chairman of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), called on the people, irrespective of their political affiliation to be prepared to point out wrong doings in society to ensure that truth was upheld at all times.
