NPP Upper East Regional Organiser arrested

The Upper East Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Taleog Ndanbon, has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a protracted dispute over a party-owned CHANGAN HUNTER pick-up allocated to the Nabdam Constituency.

A press release on Tuesday May 19, 2026 indicates that the arrest occurred near the Bolgatanga High Court. It comes after months of failed attempts by the party’s regional leadership to retrieve the vehicle from the former parliamentary candidate.

Sources within the party have indicated that the issue began after the 2024 General Elections when the NPP directed all parliamentary candidates in the Upper East Region to return vehicles assigned to their constituencies.

The party had distributed 15 pick-up vehicles, one for each constituency, ahead of the elections with instructions that they be returned to the respective Constituency Executive Committees by December 9, 2024.

While all other constituencies complied with the directive, the Nabdam vehicle allegedly remained in the custody of Mr Ndanbon.

The issue reportedly became a major subject during several Regional Executive Committee meetings.

At a meeting on April 9, 2026, Mr Ndanbon is said to have explained that the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault.

He reportedly also maintained that his position as a regional executive entitled him to continue using the pick-up.

A committee later dispatched by the party confirmed that the vehicle had a faulty clutch.

However, party officials were reportedly surprised when the vehicle resurfaced on the streets of Bolgatanga on May 5, 2026, with Mr Ndanbon still driving it.

Attempts by party representatives to retrieve the vehicle were unsuccessful after he allegedly refused to surrender it, claiming he had received approval from higher authorities within the party to continue using it.

The claim was, however, disputed by the Regional Executive Committee.

Following several unsuccessful internal interventions, Upper East Regional Chairman, Lawyer Anthony Namoo, lodged a formal complaint with the police.

In a letter dated May 19, 2024, Chairman Namoo reportedly described Mr Ndanbon’s conduct as “impudent” and “insolent,” accusing him of disregarding repeated directives from the party leadership.

He further described the alleged refusal to release the vehicle as an act of “gross misconduct and insubordination.”

Police subsequently arrested Mr Ndanbon, who was later granted bail after the vehicle was produced at the Upper East Regional Police Command.

The CHANGAN HUNTER pick-up has since been retrieved and handed over to the Nabdam Constituency Executive Committee.
